There are only a few more days left before GenSan celebrates the annual Kalilangan Festival. There is a difference however. Despite the local government’s brave forecast that the event will be held in 2021, after the COVID crisis cancelled its 2020 edition, the situation has not improved enough to allow mass gatherings and such. Instead, most of the component celebrations for Kalilangan will be streamed digitally, with limited people on the scene. Still, that does not mean that whatever events are in store will not be fun. LGU GenSan even posted some of them on Facebook, and they are worth considering for interested participating Generals.
First up, local RPN AM radio station DXDX 693 will be hosting the Kantalilangan digital signing competition on February 26, with an audition period starting Monday next week (February 22). It is being opened to amateur and professional singers that have not yet recorded albums nor performed in major concerts, at age 15 and above. Contestants must be solo performers with no props or backup dancers, singing any song (or part thereof) not exceeding 2 minutes in length, and only in English, Tagalog or Bisaya.
If singing is not your thing, but you have a flair for making and dressing up in costumes, then this other event care of longtime Kalilangan Festival sponsor Touch Mobile. Their TM FunLaro event runs from February 26 to 28, and will comprise of three contests. They are the Grand Cosplay competition, the Shoutcaster Quest, and (as expected of TM) a regional team-based “Mobile Legends: Bang Bang” tournament. Winners in these events can win up to P30,000 worth in GCash. Registration to join in on the Touch Mobile fun is only until this coming Sunday, February 21 at noon, so you had better hurry up.
Of course, for Generals willing and able to take on these events come Kalilangan 2021, they must still observe all standing COVID-19 health and safety protocols: facemask, face shield, QR codes, social distancing and so on. For more details on the RPN Kantalilangan virtual contest, check out this post on the LGU GenSan Facebook page for contact number and persons to ask for info. Meanwhile, registering for any event on the TM FunLaro event can be done online via the links at this other FB post, or you can visit Touch Mobile’s Santiago Boulevard booth.
